(updated 11/14/2022)

GM1 – Clickers 90+15
GM2 – Clickers 27d
GM3 – Opens 15+87
GM4 – Added 10d

Other1 – Clickers 90+15
Other2 – Clickers 27d

Other4 – Added 10d

Yah1 – Clickers 90+15
Yah2 – Clickers 27d
Yah3 – Opens 15+87
Yah4 – Added 10d

Step 1:

Add each of the 3 groups of segments into their own separate central LISTs.

To do this, create 3 lists…

List 1) all-gmail-for-split-[insert date]

  • Add data to this list from
    GM1 – Clickers 90+15
    GM2 – Clickers 27d
    GM3 – Opens 15+87
    GM4 – Added 10d

List 2) all-other-for-split-[insert date]

  • Add data to this list from
    Other1 – Clickers 90+15
    Other2 – Clickers 27d
    Other3 – Opens 15+87
    Other4 – Added 10d

List 3) all-yah-for-split-[insert date]

  • Add data to this list from
    Yah1 – Clickers 90+15
    Yah2 – Clickers 27d
    Yah3 – Opens 15+87
    Yah4 – Added 10d

How to get the data into these lists: Select each segment, one by one, and click Add to Mailing List. Choose the corresponding list for all 12 segments.

Step 2:

Now that you have 3 central lists containing all the data from each of your segments in their own respective buckets, split each of the lists in half to use as your A’s and B’s.

Split A (part 1/2)
1 – Go to Lists > Mailing Lists
2 – Find and click on one of your “all” lists from the step above… Choose all-gmail-for-split to start…
3 – Click “Save as segment”
4 – Click next.
5 – Name segment Split – A (Gmail) 11/14/22 — use the current date each time you make this.
6 – Save.

Split B
7 – Go to segments, find the Split A you just made (sorting the Last Updated column may make it easier to find).
8 – Copy the segment so there are 2 split A segments. (They will both consist of the list: all-gmail-for-split-date, which contains the combined data of all 4 gmail segments from Step 1)
9 – Edit the copied Split A. To do so, either click ‘Edit’ in the green box that appears at the top of the screen when you copy the original segment, or just find the segment you copied, the one with the same name and a “- 1” at the end is the copy.
10 – Leave the segment criteria as it is. Click next. Changes will be made on the following segment naming screen.
11 – Rename the segment to Split B and…
12 – Change segment type from Dynamic to Static. Click “Show advanced options.” Write in 50% for the second bubble option.
13 – Save.

Split A (part 2/2)
14 – Go back to segment: Split A. Click the segment to edit it.
Add a filter: Segment/Mailing list, Are NOT, Split B (the static segment)
Be sure both filters are joined by AND.
15 – Save.

Repeat Step 2 for the remaining lists, which should be the following if you started with the gmail list.
– all-yah-for-split-[insert date] – all-other-for-split-[insert date]

Scheduling the split segments:

• To schedule your split, be sure to create the split the day of or the day before for optimal results.
